BOOK REVIEW | THE FIERY HEART BY RICHELLE MEAD

March 15, 2016

Warning: This book review will have spoilers towards the end. You will see some warning signs.

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her...But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever. - Goodreads

Overall Thoughts
This book was definitely different from the last 3 due to the change of POVs in every chapter. In The Fiery Heart, the readers not only get the usual narrative from Sydney's perspective, but we also get Adrian's view on things as well. At first, I wasn't necessarily on board with this shift, but I do admit that it was awesome seeing things through the eyes of Lord Ivashkov. With that being said, there were times where I just wanted to consistently read from Sydney's POV but couldn't.

The Sydrian moments in this book were beautiful. Every stolen second that was shared between the two made my heart swell with so many different emotions. You can easily see that the love Sydney and Adrian have for one another is real and it was great to see it blossom into something like this.

Zoe was a pain in the ass throughout the entire book and I honestly wanted a Strigoi to come and attack her. I felt like the plot dragged a little slower than usual and I found myself waiting for something bad to happen most of the time. As a whole, the fourth establishment of the Bloodlines series was great and I can't wait to read Silver Shadows, especially after an ending like that.

RATING: 4 OUT OF 5 STARS

Oh Lord help me. Where do I start? Sydney and Adrian. Is it me or does Sydrian seem more in love than Dimitri and Rose? I never was completely on board with that relationship because I felt like it lacked an emotional connection and was more physical. I feel as if Sydney and Adrian have a more deeper understanding and love for one another, especially during their intimate moments. The way Richelle Mead described each moment was so beautiful in detail and I kept re-reading them to feel that sense of blissfulness again. I find it interesting that Sydney was kind of more into the sex than Adrian was. It was like she couldn't get enough of it lmao.

But apart from that, the whole situation with the Love Phones was bound to end badly, and it did. I knew that would be the cause of them getting caught and Sydney being sent to re-education. Speaking of that, I'm terrified as to what the next book has in store for Sydney. I swear if she pulls a "I've changed and I don't love you anymore" towards Adrian, I will throw myself into a black hole. I have faith that she will overcome whatever damage the Alchemists plan on doing to her. And I really hope the gang can get her out like they did with Rose in Last Sacrifice. I also hope Abe gets involved. I have so many theories on how the next book will go, but I'm scared it's going to be the exact opposite of what I expect or even hope. Like what if Jill dies in the process of this all? Jailbait is starting to grow on me.

One of the best parts of having Adrian POV was seeing the damage that spirit left behind. One of the main reason I love Adrian so much is because he shows emotion and he builds on you. I've seen him grow so much and knowing the depression and bipolar disorder that using spirit has caused him to have breaks my heart. I'm happy to see him taking the mood stabilizers, but when he stopped at the end in hopes to find Sydney in a spirit dream, I started getting worried that the darkness will soon take a toll on him again.

JILL AND EDDIE. ANGELINE AND TREY. NO MORE LOVE TRIANGLES I AM HERE FOR THIS.

Oh and one more thing, screw Zoe and Sydney's father. I really dislike them with a burning passion.

I know I said I would refrain from posting spoilers within my book reviews, but I couldn't help it with this one. I want to do my future reviews in this order so it's more structured and easy to read. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Thank you for reading!
